I have stopped using the word “balance” because it doesn’t balance! Yow!

Instead I see women looking at how to juggle – keep things from falling to the floor. And it is not easy, but some of it depends on how well you put it in context.

See … I think when we expect that we can have it all, we get disappointed. We cannot have it all. Instead, adjust your context. Missing a key meeting at work because your daughter had a band concert feels like you failed to “do it all” — LET THAT GO. You made that choice. In this situation it is the ball you had in the air. Stop looking at the missed meeting as a failure and instead put it into the context of being one of the balls in the air.

Because the business undercurrent is changing and women are more prevalent in the workforce now, there is an increased understanding that women are making these choices and that work may have to give more often. Take advantage of that.
